We use Gumbo Report manager to send mail in that configuration and you are correct. The only problem we have ever had with MSF is that it stalled a few times with some corrupt email but that seems to have gone away with one of IBM's PTF released.

Subject: Relaying MSF mail through a mail gateway
Currently the email that we are sending through MSF (via Helpsystems'
ESEND/SEQUEL rather than SNDDST) is being delivered directly to the
recipient's SMTP server. We'd like to relay the mail through an
internal mail proxy which does virus scanning. We only care about
outgoing mail, all incoming mail goes to our Domino server.
I've taken a look at
http://think400.dk/adhoc_3.htm#eks0004, and I
believe that all we should need to do is a
CHGSMTPA MAILROUTER(<ip of mail proxy>) FIREWALL(*YES)
along with ensuring that the i knows how to route the packets to the
mail router.
Am I correct that the other commands mentioned related to directory
entries and distribution attributes are only required if using SNDDST or
OfficeVision/400?
Are there any other gotchas that people have found when using a mail
proxy with MSF?
