or plain old DDS to define tables?

My issue w/DDS is twofold, first, there are some types (IIRC) that I
can't define in DDS. Can I define a varchar? What about a blob? And
second, and more importantly, DDS defined tables validate data on read,
but "true" SQL tables validate on write. So you _can_ write invalid data
into a DDS defined table, but you can _not_ write invalid data into an
SQL table.
