David

The link you how has the very telling letters - db2z - z is the mainframe, not the iseries.

There are a couple good places for i5 database information:

There is a direct DB2 page for i5- www.iseries.ibm.com/db2 - and that has links to manuals and lots of other useful information. The SQL Reference will list the functions you can use -

Another way to get i5 DB2 info is to go to the i5 InfoCenter. Don't search google for DB2 - go to

www.iseries.ibm.com/infocenter

or

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries

Then find the version of the operating system you are using. The current infocenter goes from V5R3 to V6R1 - it is possible to get to earlier ones, here are a couple links back to V5R1 (bleeding edge advocates need not make any comment here, please, about being au courant). I also have the various documentation library links back to V3R2, but they won't help much for SQL.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r1/ic2924

In any of these, look for the Database topic in the left-hand menu - it is in different places at different versions. In there should be manuals, including the SQL Reference.

Hi Vern, see this link http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/dzichelp/v2r2/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.db29.doc.sqlref/db2z_bif_rpad.htm

Maybe you can tell me what product I should be looking at for SQL on the i5?
Thanks.

What database product is using this syntax?

Hi,

How do I write this or its equivalent for my i5?

INSERT INTO t_test VALUES (2,rpad('*',32000,'*'))

Thanks.
