Yes, you can write a stream file (PC file) directly to the IFS. But
you still need to get that data in/out of the traditional i file
system. IBM has commands like CPYTOSTMF/CPYFRMSTMF, and
CPYTOIMPF/CPYFRMIMPF that can do it. You can also use Scott's IFS APIs
from an RPGLE program.

Yes does. I was thinking about modernizing some applications that are used on the PC and gets their data from the AS/400. We have some of these in our shipping department. Instead of the FTP couldn't we write directly to the IFS?

Actually we store more data in the IFS than in traditional DB2 libraries
on our systems. But that isn't by "modernizing our legacy systems". It's
by adding additional workloads to the i. Such as Domino, guested servers,
etc.

I would leave your applications in DB2 if that is a good fit. What I
would start storing in the IFS might be the html and all to create a new
front end. Makes sense?

HI I was interested in hearing of some typical uses you have with using
the IFS? It is one of the areas we are exploring in the need to modernize
our legacy systems here.

Thank you,
Adam
