Yes I am not that familiar with stream files actually. How are they used?

IFS means Integrated File System. Every thing that is addressable
from the OS is found in the IFS (with the possible exception of the
machine context). Perhaps you mean "what do we use stream files and
directories for?" which is an entirely different question.
