<Use of the IFS>
1. I use Scott Klement's toolset to dynamically build .csv files
formatted to be read by MS Excel. Accounting stores these
spreadsheets on a Win Server (or could read them directly from the IFS), so with a RPGLE screen prompt for user to fill in request, and SQLRPGLE to get data, immediately build the spreadsheet and ftp to their server or email anywhere with RPGMAIL. Users can open the files with Excel within seconds.
No need to cut & paste, no cpytostmf..., no trying to mangle it with processes that read spooled files to extract data (not a fan), and no Client Access data transfers.
Same process to build files dynamically for web serving to users and customers. We give customers a web page to download a recap of all their orders (with selection criteria). They love it.
2. Generate reports in pdf format for printing/email/xmit, archives, web serving.
(and more)
Go for it!

Subject: Use of the IFS

HI I was interested in hearing of some typical uses you have with using the IFS? It is one of the areas we are exploring in the need to modernize our legacy systems here.

Thank you,
Adam
