I did a
DSPOBJD OBJ(QFAX/QFQRFSPIS) OBJTYPE(*PGM) DETAIL(*SERVICE)
on one of these programs that won't convert and saw
Licensed program . . . . . . . . . . : 5798TAY V3R7M0
PTF number . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
Now according to document 8625662800545BB4 5798TAY was a really old
version of FAX/400.
Question 17 at
http://tinyurl.com/4mjyf2
or
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&dc=DB520&dc=D900&dc=D800&dc=DA900&dc=DA800&q1=5798tBY+AND+AS400KBXXYYZZRCH&uid=nas165ab98a2ec21f5b686256ca60078a823&loc=en_US&cs=UTF-8&lang=all
says you should not need to DLTLICPGM fax before installing a new version.
Support is scrambling to change that.

My big concern was that the DLTLICPGM would lose configurations and
whatnot. However step 4 of document 8625672A004AC41D assures me that it
won't.

Well, here goes,
DLTLICPGM 5798FAX
QFAX lib is gone
RSTLICPGM...
STROBJCVN...
Strange MCH4227 error with reason code 22
Loaded and applied all ptfs for 5798fax (including test ptf)
STROBJCVN...
No more MCH4227 error. Did ptf fix it, or previous STROBJCVN? Well, no
messages about observability at least.
GO FAX, admin, print config, all there.
STRFAXSPT
SBMFAX...
Got it.
I can do this. Now to do it on production (still at v5r4). And use
ANZOBJCVN instead of STROBJCVN.
