Thanks to all for the responses. For some reason I had a
an old (and obviously wrong memory) that the AFP print
driver did not like pdf's.

Install a 300 dpi AFP print driver on your Windows box. (There's one on
the iSeries Access CD). In the properties, change the output type to
"overlay". Then print to file -- upload the resulting file to your IBM
i, and run the CRTOVL command to create an *OVL object.
