A minor note, more of a question...

AFAIK, you aren't _exactly_ "locked out" after 70 days unless you attempt to re-IPL, at least as far as the OS goes. I'm near certain we've had a couple test systems built from 'spare parts' that have been temporarily loaded up with OS/400 and run for more than 70 days. Our in-house scrounger was reasonably adept, and I heard more than once that one temporary test system could not have a particular "fix" until it was reloaded because an IPL would be needed.

So, I don't know the extent of a "lock-out" nor the implications in practical terms.

Does anybody have a full story on this?
