subject: Re: More on MySQL DB2 Storage Engine

Dan,

This question was asked on the iSociety Fireside Chat with Ross Mauri on
Tuesday. The answer was first quarter 2009.

Thanks. Does anyone know if it will be PTF'd for V5R4, or only run on
V6R1?

Will there be an easy way to migrate an existing MySQL database to the
DB2
storage engine?

Yes, and it is pretty painless, too. MySQL lets you change the storage
engine associated with a particular table by doing an ALTER. So, migrating
existing tables to DB2 will just require a little script that does an
"ALTER TABLE xxx ENGINE=IBMDB2I" for all of the tables that need
migrating. Once that is done, both MySQL and your DB2 interface of choice
should be able to use the tables.
