Elvis,

I've got *JOBCTL., so there must be something else missing on our Pre-Prod
(which is were I already have STRDBG)

Not sure if this will help, but if I recall correctly, you'll need a
*JOBCTL
authority (for STRDBMON that runs in the background of Visual Explain) and
the authority to STRDBG command (as you have already found).
That's all I remember though, and you may be hitting upon some other
(undocumented) requirement.
BTW, if you find out (from IBM or on your own) what are all the required
authorities, please post back as I'm curious to know as well.

Subject: Visual Explain doesn't work

All,

When I try to do a "Run and Explain" from iNav v5r4, nothing ever comes
back.

I'd be willing to bet is some sort of authority issue, but I can't tell
what
it might be.

When I try to do it on our production box, I see the following in the
QZDASOINIT joblog:
Output file QZG0000025 created in library QUSRSYS.
Member QZG0000025 added to output file QZG0000025 in library QUSRSYS.
Database monitor started for job 797299/QUSER/QZDASOINIT, monitor ID
7972990001.
Not authorized to object STRDBG in QSYS.
Trigger program or external routine detected an error.

Ok so, STRDBG is the problem here (developers can't debug on
production...I'm working on getting authority to STRDBG itself without
having the authority to actually debug a production program)

But on our preproduction box, where I do have STRDBG authority, I see only
this:
Output file QZG0000008 created in library QUSRSYS.
Member QZG0000008 added to output file QZG0000008 in library QUSRSYS.
Database monitor started for job 082411/QUSER/QZDASOINIT, monitor ID
0824110001.
DESCRIBE of prepared statement STMT0013 completed.
PREPARE of statement STMT0013 completed.
Unable to retrieve query options file.
**** Starting optimizer debug message for query .
The query access plan has been rebuilt.
Unable to retrieve query options file.
Unable to retrieve query options file.
Arrival sequence access was used for file CUSTOMP.
Unable to retrieve query options file.
**** Ending debug message for query .
ODP created.
Blocking used for query.
Cursor CRSR0013 opened.
129 rows fetched from cursor CRSR0013.

However, I never get any results back into Run SCL scripts nor does Visual
Explain start..

Does anybody know what is going on?

Thanks!
Charles Wilt
