What I ended up doing was actually a better"safety net" than a mandatory 
prompt would have been:

I set up a dependency in the command, such that if the combination of 
the first parameter specified and everything else defaulted produced a 
potential unsafe condition, it would give an error message, requiring 
that at least the second parameter be specified (even if it's the same 
as the default).
