Usually when twinax works in Normal mode, but not in Manual mode for Twinax,
it tends to be that the "console" is not set correctly.
I would do the following:
1) Go into SST and make sure the Console is set to Twinax.
2) What type of machine is it? Some of the older 8xx machines
had to have the console in IOA in a certain card slot? Is this an HMC
controlled machine?
3) Are you at Address 0 on the display on Port 0 of the twinax
"brick"?

If there are no replies, that means nobody has an idea on how to help you.
I sure don't - i have no idea why it would work in Auto mode and not
in Manual mode.
My suggestion would be to call IBM support - they do have people with
a lot of clue, that can surely help you with that problem.
