I just Googled "vista netbios" since this question has come up several
times. Found these instructions for enabling NetBios. As there is an
article, it must not be enabled by default.

To enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on Windows Vista:

Click Start, and then click Network. (Or you can click Start, type
ncpa.cpl into the search box, and press ENTER).
Click on the Network and Sharing Center, and then click Manage Network
Connections.
Right click on the Local Area Connection or the connection you are
using.
Select the Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Click the Advanced button under the General tab.
Click the WINS tab.
Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.
Click Ok.

If NetBios isn't enabled, you aren't going to be able to communicate
with earlier versions of OS400 Netserver. Worth a try.

I managed to get a PC with Vista Business to map a network drive to an
iSeries with V5R3 but not to V5R1. Another PC with XP Pro works fine
with both machines. There is nothing complex about the connections of
either and I am trying to connect locally at present, not remotely.

Is there anyone who has managed to map a drive from Vista to V5R1? If
so, please let me know the secret! I am aware that I am not the only
person with this problem.
