Albert,
I'm testing my application using that method, but for security purposes, I
do not want a predictable value nor do I want to use a numeric value. I
like Ulrich's idea and, when I get some time, I'll create a routine that
will issue a random value using that method.

Do you wany it to be random or unique?
If you want it to be unique then the best way is to keep a counter and increment it. It's also the simplist.

Subject: Random Alpha String

Does anyone have a technique for generating a random alpha string. I want
to randomly generate a data area name and I don't want to use numerics if
that can be avoided.
