I've contacted IBM and they said there is no way to disable local
delivery as long as the IP address for our domain name points to the
AS/400. I can't change that.

So they prefer the A record for the domain over the MX record? That's
not per-RFC and I'd say it's a bug.

Now, that's doesn't help now, so... what about a dummy host entry on the
400 w/the a different ip for your domain so as to fool the local SMTP
server? Does the 400 act as the DNS for the rest of your network?
