I cannot remember exactly how long I've left the spool file in a PND state,
but I'm sure its been for quite a few hours.
If this is in fact the problem, then the overlay is definitely out of the
question.
As for your question of the overlay being overly complex ---- I used excel
to create a grid in landscape format, with every other row being shaded.
What I may do is to create a simple overlay (of maybe a couple of rows in a
grid format) and see what happens there.

PND just means the writer is "thinking". This can indicate HPT is
active, or overlays are being merged, etc. Perhaps the overlay is
overly complex? Does it NEVER print or are you just impatient?
