IBM now has an Integrated Web Services Server that makes it easy to turn a
RPG program to a Web service: you run a simple wizard and all the setup is
done for you.
It's available on V5R4 and 6.1. For V5R4 it's delivered as part of the
HTTP PTF group. Just make sure you are at the latest level (at least 13),
earlier versions had problems.
There's documentation at this site:
http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/i/software/iws/quickstart_server.html
We did a small prototype just to try it, in the end it's real easy. (One
gotcha is that you nedd *ALLOBJ so the wizard can create the server.) We
haven't looked at performance under volume yet, but so far we get very
similar response times as with stored procedures.
Have a nice day.
Thierry.
