A customer's SMTP jobs shut down

On a customer's box:

Their QMSF job is apparently running, but their SMTP jobs are shut down, and appear to have crashed on takeoff this morning. The QSMTPBRCL, QSMTPSRVD, and QSMTPCLTD jobs seem to have received "immediate end job" requests. The QSMTPBRSR job has this:

Message ID . . . . . . : CPFAFA0 Date sent . . . . . . : 09/12/08 Time sent . . . . . . : 05:58:52
Message . . . . : Errors detected on MSF internal message index. Cause . . . . . : Mail server framework (MSF) internal message index was damaged or destroyed.

The only messages I see in the QMSF joblog are complaints about SMTP not being active.

Where should I look next?
