Why wouldn't it be available to those query users? Any VIEW can use a
UDF. And I've written a FAQ at faq.midrange.com on how to make a service
program subprocedure into a UDF and put it in a view.

Having users query tables (and figure out join this to that and ...) can
be numbing. Create good views. After all, you've played with query tools
and the first thing they do is force you to create meta data. And much of
the cool stuff that meta data does can be done with good views.
