Unless you're using a business grade internet connection (static
IP-Adresses with appropriate PTR records), most other Mailservers will
classify your mail as spam. So the first step would be to upgrade to a
business internet connection.

As for an edge mail gateway, your best bet would be to deploy a Linux
LPAR running either Postfix or Sendmail. Both are excellent at what
they do.

The IBM i SMTP server isn't really up to date regarding it's
featureset, and shouldn't handle direct delivery to the internet.
