Hmm. I shall try really hard not to be sarcastic. We'll see
whether I succeed. Here goes.

(*) Multi-member files work reasonably well on the AS/400 while
not disturbing too much those S/36 programs and programmers
which create files (e.g., per batch, or something) on the
fly.

(*) Batch identifiers within the record encourage scope-creep.
It becomes really easy, using regular application programming
techniques, to give a supervisor really advanced functions
like a list of all open batches, for example.
