Isn't it nice that when one sticks in a CD or a DVD into OPT01 (or that
genre) you will see QSYSOPR messages that a volume was mounted, or
demounted?
Now you want that on a tape drive. Good luck with that. Submit a DCR.

I noticed that if I go into STRSST
1. Start a service tool
1. Product activity log
1. Analyze log
and change the default on
Statistic . . . . . . . . .
from N to Y, I see some interesting things on tape. You could see if they
correlate with loading or unloading.

We were discovering that others were removing our nightly backup tapes to
restore something and forgetting to reload our backup tapes. We ended up
writing a little utility that runs CHKTAP and reports the volume id to us
in an email at 4pm every day. Gives us time to reload the tape.
We also got a monster of a 3576 tape drive that's fiber attached via a
2109-F16 san switch. Scares away all those but the most experienced and
keeps them from mucking with our tapes.
