temporary storage for temporary tables or indexes, but this is never
as much as transaction that is never closed.

I am on a 170 with slowly eroding disk space (just hit 80%) and constant
drumbeat of various other demands on my time such that I rarely able to
work on disk space topic.

Did you run a RTVDSKINF/PRTDSKINF Report? This is actually very useful
most of the time, telling you exactly where you're using up storage.
