Hi Terry and Frank

I haven't struck a system i without SQL - although I've worked on more than
a few without the 57xx-ST1 LPP.

Did you try iSeries Navigator

Not from a dumb terminal, I didn't.

or STRQMQRY

Something like that. I found a utility which wrapped a CL command
around an SQL statement, and think I remember that the utility was build
over STRQMQRY. Of course, that only helped after I had gone away to
visit the 'net. (Hey, you wouldn't expect internet access from the
customer office, would you?)

or... depending on what your
challenge was ?

Among other challenges, SQL does not work worth a damn on
program-described files in the S/36 e.e.

To my knowledge no such beast as an i "without SQL" exists. :)

Right you are. I should have written "an AS/400 with SQL well hidden".
BTW, I mean AS/400 literally: CISC box running V3R2.

But for odd experience, I think nothing beats working to keep a
System/32 limping along until the its replacement AS/400 was working.
How come IBM never published anything about that migration, can you tell
me?

On the other hand, there was this other customer that programmed their
3741's
<http://www-03.ibm.com/ibm/history/exhibits/rochester/rochester_4016.html> in its assembly language.

Gotta stop rambling. The time warp is getting to me.

Cheers,
Terry.

Hi Terry

I use SQL daily, it is a powerful tool and I would NOT work on an
AS400 that does not have SQL.

Hmmph. I never realized how much I had come to rely on SQL until until
I went to a customer site without it. I am now much more appreciative.

Terry.
