Ok Vern, but you never need to beg here. It's an open forum. :-)

get also works with .file, which is all I ever wanted to point out.

I didn't intend for this to become a religious debate so I'll bow out of the
conversation now.

Thank you for the information you provided. I'm sure it will come in handy
for many list readers.

Shannon - I beg to differ - try the .savf extension - it is a special one
for SAVFs only.

Yes, normally you use the object type, but for SVFs you use this one. The
object type will work equally well for downloading fro iSeries, but it will
create a PF if uploading - hence, the special extension.

Using this special extension means you do NOT have to pre=create the SAVF.
It's a wonderful thing!

Nope. It's .file for the extension on the iSeries.

Shannon

I prefer this, as well, except you have assumed the iSeries is using path
naming NAMEFMT 1 = one can't assume that. Also, I think it should be using

the extension .savf on the iSeries side, not .file - it will work for a
GET
but will not for a PUT.

Or...on the PC...

ftp

bin
get /qsys.lib/yourlib.lib/yoursavf.file yoursavf.savf\
quit

On iSeries:
CRTSAVF FILE(/)

SAVOBJ OBJ()
LIB()
DEV(*SAVF)
OBJTYPE(*PGM)
SAVF()

On PC:
FTP

binary
get /
quit
