On a guested lpar I do the
PWRDWNSYS OPTION(*CNTRLD) DELAY(120) RESTART(*NO)
Check the HMC, wait, and verify it's down.
Then on the hosting lpar I do a WRKCFGSTS *NWS. I go to vary it off and
it tells me
CPDC1C9 - Forced vary off (FRCVRYOFF) parameter required when Power
control (PWRCTL) parameter specified *YES.
Recovery . . . : Varying off while the hosted partition is still active
may cause the next IPL of the hosted partition to be an abnormal IPL,
since
Power down system (PWRDWNSYS) command will not be issued as part of the
vary off.
-- Use the PWRDWNSYS command to power down the hosted partition.
-- When PWRDWNSYS command is complete on the hosted partition try the
vary off request again with FRCVRYOFF(*YES).
I sure hate forcing it.
