This might be one time when a stored procedure is LESS desirable. For
example if I create this table:
CREATE TABLE rob.RYAN (
RECID CHAR (1 ) NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT 'A',
ORDERNBR INT NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT as identity,
CUSTNBR INT NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT 12345,
ITEMNBR CHAR (22 ) NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT 'CounterOrder',
QTYORD DEC (15 , 3) NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT 5.56,
CRTTS TIMESTAMP NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT CURRENT TIMESTAMP,
CONSTRAINT ROB.ORDERNBR PRIMARY KEY (ORDERNBR))

And I only insert the field ITEMNBR
INSERT INTO ROB.RYAN (ITEMNBR) VALUES('abc123')

Lookie at what I have:

select * from rob.ryan
....+....1....+....2....+....3....+....4....+....7....+....8....+....9....+...10...
RECID ORDERNBR CUSTNBR ITEMNBR QTYORD CRTTS
A 1 12,345 abc123 5.560
