Power5
Yeah, I learned alot at Common last year about why to stick with a HMC
managed setup (not getting firmware ahead of HMC capabilities). I just
haven't done a cume since switching the 3 boxes over to HMC managed.
So - the cume will basically skip the firmware related PTFs and I handle
applying updated firmware later via the HMC (after getting the HMC code up
to date to handle any newer firmware levels if needed), correct?

Are you Power 5 or 6?
Look not just at "Latest release levels" but also at "Supported code
combinations". I had let my firmware and HMC code get behind for awhile
and I ended up having to upgrade HMC to an intermediate level, upgrade
firmware a little, upgrade HMC to latest and greatest, finish upgrading
firmware to latest. Some might see that as a pain versus just applying
firmware via cume. As stated in earlier threads, I see it as a way to
make sure that my HMC would continue to work with the firmware. Otherwise
you could get to a firmware higher than your HMC supports.

Firmware/Cume/HMC
Am I correct when thinking that with HMC Managed systems (with firmware
update policy sete to HMC Managed) loading a cume package will NOT update
the firmware levels on the server? The firmware level will not advance
until I do so from the HMC, correct?
I am at 7.3.1.0 SP1 on our HMCs and firmware level 240_320 on our servers
and am about to load the 8057 cume and update our other PTF groups as
well.
