Thanks, Rob, Joe and Peter for the replies,
Our files are not journelled and sorry Joe but I need to check an
existing file but will take the advice on the timestamp field when
creating files from now on - thanks!

Hi Guys,

Is there a way to determine when the last record of a file was
written?

Prevesh, I don't know if this is an option for you, but this is a
favorite technique of mine: I add a timestamp field called "written" to

the physical file. Make sure it is NOT NULL capable. Then create a
logical view over the file that does not include the timestamp field.
If you write a record to the logical, it will automatically initialize

the timestamp field to the date/time the record was written.
