I seriously do not think that this is a good idea.
One of the key things that are holding back the whole platform are
people that are still using ages old, unsupported software and/or
hardware.
Of course the reasons for this are not always technical, lazyness,
lack of money, etc. all run into such (stupid) decisions. I think it's
very important that at the technical level is very, very clear - if
you're not on V5R3, V5R4 or V6R1 right now, your decision makers made
a decision that is extremely wrong.
Being around people that run current software will allow those stuck
in the past to see what advantages modern software design, modern
hardware and modern features can bring them. Maybe that will enable
those people to move to now - the year 2008.
Where we're using transactions, web services, db logs, online backups etc.
Where we're using the HMC to manage our hardware, image catalogs to
upgrade the OS or install PTF, and connect to our systems using SSL
secured Telnet over IP
I'm not running NT4 in 2008 - one shouldn't run V4R5 either.
