please note this was not a slam against Neil...the rag in general. yes
the budget *IS* small for development. and yes i feel IBM *should* start
marketing the OS now! IMO they have just resigned the "i" OS to
negligibility. most IT/IS manager *know* what AIX and Linux are...they'll
likely invest *more* in those technologies vs. IBM i (again that's just my
opinion). *IF* IBM i is to be competitive with the other available OSes
that run on the hardware they'll *have* to start marketing the OS...not
just the hardware (which appears to be the case to me).
They promised marketing at COMMON...they never said they'd market the IBM
i OS...just that they'd market the machine (i.e. hardware)...well i've
seen a *little" of that and a very tiny "i For business" logo (of course
pictured beside the AIX and Linux logos).

Tommy,
Whether you agree with their opinion, this article is a little different.
It
is IT Jungle giving Neil a place to offer his opinion. And if you read it
closely, you will see he has some valid points that should be addressed by
IBM.
Sure, not everyone will agree with his opinion, and others will be
surprised
by some of his facts. Either way, his question is about the future of the
IBM i operating system in this new Power Systems equation. IBM made some
interesting promises at COMMON, and some of them have not come to
fruition.
The simplest example was that the 'i for business' logo was to be seen
with
the AIX and Linux logos everywhere the Power Systems was to be marketed. I
would expect IBM's website to be a marketing tool, yet their site
(
http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power) has none of the three logos.
Add Neil's perspective, and it would be nice to have some more IBM i
visibility out in the mainstream world.

IMO no one should give them any credence whatsoever. should they start
writing *good* credible articles i'll start listening...
