The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.

The thing I've always wondered is: if the only way Dave could connect to
i5/OS DB2 was via ODBC/JDBC/Navigator SQL scripts, would he notice any
operational difference? Much of what he goes on about are implementation
details, which Codd argued are irrelevant as long as the RDBMS achieves
its design goals. I mean, who gives a flip about how SQL Server uses
Windows to store its tables in "files" and "file groups" if it behaves
in the expected manner?

Dave has "enlightened" us before, and all I have seen him ever write
is that a "real" DB only has tables and not files, only partitions and
not members. The fact that DB2/400 has other access methods he sees as
a fault and not a benefit. He can't see the forest for the trees. He
has yet to convince me that the only "real" difference is the
background that DB2/400 came from.
