I am in the process of migrating a 270 to a newer box. Goal is to have it
as a guested lpar on some other lpar at v6r1. Since the 270 does not
support v6r1 I brought it up to m5 of v5r4. Next limitation was that, in
the guested lpar situation both the guest, and the host, have to be
running v6r1 or later. This left us two options:
1 - Put the V5R4M5 lpar on a dedicated lpar instead of a guested lpar.
2 - Start out the system with just this lpar. Upgrade the lpar to v6r1.
Save it off. Initialize the system. Create new lpar for the host. Get
it running. Add this former 270 as a guested lpar.
We're going with option 2. We now have the lpar restored and running.
Still at V5R4M5. Want to do some performance testing before upgrade to
V6R1. Then more performance testing. Then more testing as a guested
lpar.
By the way, this lpar has BPCS 405CD, ERPLX and some Domino. It is a
"test" machine in the classic sense of the word. If it was down for a day
the only one who would notice is the person when they went to stick in the
backup tape for the night.
So far, I'm impressed, but there's lots to go...
