If you are on an earlier release you can use the V4R5M1 version of 5799-PTL.
Perl in that package shows as:
Summary of my perl5 (5.0 patchlevel 5 subversion 3) configuration:
Platform:
osname=aix, osvers=4.3.3.0, archname=aix

So a bit older but maybe workable.

If you are on V5R4 or V6R1 (6.1) you can install the newer V5R4M0
version of 5799PTL. V5R4M0 of 5799PTL contains Perl 5.8.7
