I hat to do this since it will probably start another holy war over IBM's
naming decisions, but this statement is not redundant at all.

Over the years IBM marketed three distinct sets of hardware named the
As/400, the iSeries and the System i.

I know everyone gets all pissy about their feelings on the name changes
over the years, but the fact is that every time IBM changed the name, it
also meant there was a significant change in the hardware, and yes, there
were also time when the hardware changed, but the name didn't change.
