Another reason I asked the question is that perhaps Oracle / SQLServer
- etc. DBMS has a method that works - and a DB2 person among us was
familiar with it. I would not care really where the data comes from if
it is "good stuff". If you are building tables per project, over the
years it adds up. I am really surprised that generating data is not
core yet in DB2 - if true. The thought hit me, that we have VERY few
field types considering how complex the DBMS could have been, why not
have the command that works on that finite set of field types?
i.e. - How do the DB2 internal developer guys test?

Above and beyond the basics might be meaningful data from an add-on
product, for unit testing certain phases of an application.
So, in my thought I have three distinct types of data so far:
1) generic test data for proof of concept testing, upgrade testing, etc.
2) meaningful data
3) actual data pertaining to the business.

meaningful data might include source tables and picking a language to
generate words /names/phone formats in;
JOHN SMITH
SAM SMITH
JOE PUBLIC
LISA SMITH
--- FIELD 2 -
CABINET
DOOR
CHAIR
WINDOW

- and then a Spanish or French set.
