Not hardly. Yes in some cases but we could not be without printed output and
that is not going to change in the foreseeable future. We even still Pick
Tickets, Invoices and Statements because customers want them. We do fax
these to customer that will take them that way. We also convert Pox's and
other stuff to PDF's and automatically email them. This mix is going to be
around for us, and others I would imagine, for some time to come...

a case can be made that spooled files and output queues are outdated
in the age of PDF and XML files. Users want to do a lot more with
their spooled output than just print it. PDF can be printed anywhere.
Users want to extract data from their reports and import into a
spreadsheet. XML is better for that purpose than i5/OS spooled files.
