Vern,

Did you miss the part about the vendor himself stating they only support
OS levels currently supported by IBM? I think a vendor has to make a
decision whether the money is there to:
- just support old stuff, retire in a year, and sell it to someone else to
worry about.
- support two (or more) versions, old and new
- minimize cost by not supporting old versions, but perhaps lose some new
sales to older customers.

I've learned too long ago to never rely on the position or content of any
OUTPUT(*PRINT) command. I would have thought a vendor would have too.
Mostly because a vendor would have been in the same situation as I was in
supporting multiple releases of OS. And, something as simple as the space
used in DSPSYSSTS flying all over the report (and GB vs MB vs...).

Did we upgrade past the support level of TGTRLS of one of our divisions?
Yes. Did we have all their source solely on our computer? Yes. Did they
finally upgrade? Within one week of our upgrade and couldn't get a fix
they needed.

Do you find that your customers routinely have to upgrade your software
prior to a release upgrade? I really can't think of one thing we've had
to upgrade on our ERP vendor's solution prior to V6R1 to support an OS
upgrade. (Not counting CISC-to-RISC, or S/36 to AS/400.)
