Subject: What is the high-speed memory key used for on an HMC?

I see that one can, on version 7 of the HMC, format either a DVD-RAM or
a high-speed memory key. I can't figure out how a memory key would be
used.

Upgrade Data can be saved to special disk partition on an external DVD
media.

The Back up HMC Data option allows the use of DVD, remote system or a
remote site.

So what the heck is the use of the high speed memory key? I would like
to use one to back up HMC data, as I'm not having an easy time finding
DVD-RAMs.
