The 15D was special in that it could run CCP (3270 terminal support).

My first S/38 job had just migrated from a S/3 15D to S/38 model 5. The users were disappointed with the S/38 because the 15D was effectively faster. CCP was more efficient in supporting our 30-40 casual online users due to the way programs and screens interact (CICS like).
