I think IBM is an everything company. Their hardware is rocket ship quality
and a market leader. On the Lenovo front, they figure they cant compete with
Supermicro and the other white box server sellers, so why not license their
technology to a company that can and make some money from the deal. On the
SW front, they cant compete against anything in the Windows space because
the MSFT people are so smart and competitive. But they are just about the
only big fish in the Linux space and have something of value to sell there.
