If you want a language that's "less like RPG," use a different language.
In particular, if you want a language "more in tune with Java," use Java.
And I was under the impression that there had been an option to
eliminate The Cycle since somewhere in the V5s (and again, if you have
such an aversion to The Cycle, why are you using RPG at all?)
