I have a few customers who are on 170s running V5R3 and they work
fine. I can't see how you can make a statement like that. Perhaps your
170s don't have enough memory. Would I like to upgrade all of them to 515s,
but some are on tight budgets.

You can upgrade a 170 to V5R3, I would not however recommend it; at V5R3
it will be dog slow.......the highest I would consider would be V5R1.
