Al,
The joint COMMON and UserBlue conf attempt in Chicago was a bust. I was
TOTALLY STUNNED to hear some of the former CBOD'ers thinking it was a
success...from a UserBlue side it was a total disaster, and according to
many of their group it was due to conference mismanagement...
Anyway, UserBlue is out of business....the AIXL/Unix world is a very hard
one to figure out.

The last time that COMMON did a joint I and P thingie, (COMMON in Chicago,
my senility thinks), it went over like a lead balloon. I understand that
this might be where IBM wants to go, but I don't think that it's very
market driven.
The last quarter at IBM was apparently very profitable (less likely from
technology than from international currency stuff - don't ask me, I'm just
a knurd), so if IBM needs a tax deferral strategy, this might be the
ticket. Good tax planning IBM!

Well, it was originally to be in Baltimore, then they decided that if they
did a joint I & p conf, the Baltimore venu was too small. Then it was to
be
in DC...and a joint i/p conference...that was supposed to be TENTATIVELY
the
2nd week in September... And now I'm hearing rumour of it being in
Chicago...
I've tried calling IBM on this several time last week...no luck...I guess
the tech conferences are being handled by iSeries marketing.. :) :)
