If you don't have two UPSes, you can still get a second power supply,
and just plug the second one directly to the net. Beats having
downtime just because a breaker is blown.

Since we don't have dual power sources to the building, don't have dual

This isn't about assigning fault. It's about finding the root cause of
an outage. It can always happen that a power supply blows. Be it of a
screen, a modem, a server, or whatever. The precautions for these
incidents are not that expensive, and should always be done if
downtime is a problem for you (which is usually the case with all
production machines).

A second power supply for a model 525 costs around 500 US$. This is
quite a bit of money for me, but for a company where every second of
downtime costs money, it's nothing.

Even if I had two independent sources of power, I'm not sure it would have
helped: if a 1.5AMP monitor was the cause, it could just as easily have
blown two redundant 30 amp circuits as one.

Erm, no. They're *seperate* power sources, connected to different
power supplies, with appropriate partitioning into groups using
breakers. A monitor is only connected to a single power source, and a
seperate breaker. Worst that can happen is one of the power sources
out, but the server will continue to run happily.
