First day back at work, and already stuck because of IBMs miserable
internet infrastructure.

Today we've got in a few new model 515 to be shipped to customers.
Besides loading software, preconfiguration etc. i also apply the
current cumulative and group PTFs.

This morning, around 0800 (GMT+1) i started the download, usually
lingering around 100-150kbyte/s. Of course, with CUM+Group weighing in
at around 12GB, this is rather slow. The problem is not our internet
connection though, because that one is clocked in at 15mbit/s.

Microsoft uses Akamai for all their big downloads. Downloading large
Images from MSDN i usually get around 14mbit/s.

IBM uses a lone, slow machine, stuck somewhere beyond a big pond,
delivering miserable bandwidth.

Why can't IBM use a decent content delivery system to house their
downloads? Or at least offer a mirror in Europe that has decent
bandwidth.
