Do you mean you want to use have a Client Access 5250 Printer emulation session being used?

If so, I don't believe you can.

AFAIK, AFP printers can only be twinax attached or network attached DEVTYP(*IPDS) AFP(*YES) printers.
In addition, you need the PSF/400 licpgm install on the System i.

In other words, to have an AFP printer, you have to have an IBM or other printer with a IPDS chip
inside to support IPDS printing.

However, Host Print Transform (HPT) which allows the System I to print to ASCII printers includes AFP
to ASCII transformation. Which means you can send *AFPDS spool files to a ASCII HP printer and for
the most part get the output you are expecting.

I've never attempted to do that via 5250 printer emulation however. I don't know that it is
supported. At a guess, you'd want the "Transform data to ASCII on iSeries" checkbox on the PC5250
Printer Emulation Setup checked; as I doubt IBM would duplicate the AFP-to-ASCII transform code on the
PC side.

Charles

Subject: iSeriess Access AFP printing

I have been going through previous threads on this subject without
success. I would like to setup a printer attached to my PC as an AFP
printer. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
