Charles,

Yes, I think that does help, as that's the way I have to program now for
the Intermec printer we have (to print barcodes on it).

However, I was hoping that the "new" technology/software available now
would MASK all of those intricacies and make this whole process much
easier. I hope I'm not disappointed!

Don,

If you expect the Zebra to print, your spool file better contain
something like this:

^XA
^LH30,30
^FO20,10^AD^FDZEBRA^FS
^FO20,60^B3^FDAAA001^FS
^XZ

Which are commands in the ZPL language the Zebra understands. The above
will print out a line with the word ZEBRA; followed by a line with a
code 39 barcode of the value "AAA001".

If you send the same thing to the HP, all you get is the exact text.

So is your spool file in ZPL or not?

Just because both printers can print barcodes doesn't mean that they use
the same language to do so.

I know that the HP is not a label printer, yet I can print barcodes on

it. But, I have not been able to address the Zebra printer in the
same way I addresses the HP printer, for any output from the Systemi.

Don't quite understand what you are saying here.

If you can send a spool file to an HP and have it print, there is
absolutely no way you're going to be able to send the same spool file
to a zebra and have it print.

The zebra uses ZPL which uses text encoded control commands to control

what is being printed.

Unless you're talking about having a spool file with the ZPL in it
sent to a HP, the output would be readable from the HP but wouldn't
match what the zebra would put out.

This is what I have now:

You are using HPT when you specify TRANSFORM(*YES).

HPT in this instance is providing only *SCS to ASCII conversion.

PCL doesn't come into play unless you have using a *DEVD with
SYSDRVPGM(*HPPJLDRV). Even then, I think it only really matters
in

a

*AFPDS to ASCII conversion.

OP was using *HP5SI though, which is PCL.
