We have a 9406-170 (at V5R3) that is no longer used for production
(basically just for practice now).
No partitions, 10 drives in 1 ASP, device parity for data protection.
Disk unit #1 has failed but the machine is otherwise running fine.
I'll be deleting a bunch of user libraries to get the disk usage down
and don't really care if I don't replace the failed disk. I'm fine with
one less drive but I would like to get the device parity protection
restored. I'm guessing that this is a bigger deal however because it is
the load source drive that has failed.
I have been reading through the Backup and Recovery manual to see what
my next steps are, but are there any other choices aside from just
reloading the LIC and the operating system after I have removed the
failed disk and moved one of the other drives into its slot?
Is a SAVSYS or SAVSTG backup still of any use if I have reduced the
number of disk units?

Thanks,

-doug
